Kaley and David first approached us to photograph their wedding a few months ago and I was really excited once they got into the details. It was going to be an intimate backyard wedding at their home near the beaches in Toronto and the reception was going to be in the backyard of David's parents' home in another part of the city. Kaley and David explained that their wedding was going to be small and include lots of personal items and details that reflected their family and their roots. David was going to make the benches himself, the musicians for the ceremony and for the evening party would be family members and the food and dessert would reflect a true backyard style party. I do remember both Kaley and David spending a lot of time listing some of their concerns about their plans and the tight space, but I also remember myself thinking about all the amazing potential a small, intimate wedding like this would bring in terms of the photography. The only part of the day that would be out of any of our control was the weather. Well, we were given amazing clear skies and a nice breeze coming off the lake as we first met David and some of his family hanging around the home prior to the ceremony. We captured the guys doing what guys do (not much of it included "getting ready") but, they were having fun and enjoying the quiet house that would soon be filled with lots of guests and laughter. But, before that, we quickly headed off to meet with Kaley and her girls getting ready at a nearby friend's house. We managed to find lots of little moments and fun in between hair and makeup before heading back for the ceremony followed by an amazing backyard reception complete with a pool, BBQ and a brilliant setting sun. Sheena and I really did have a wonderful time capturing all the guests and speeches and were made to feel like we were a part of the family. Kaley and David's wedding truly was a wonderful experience and definitely a special night that doesn't come around very often. We wish them only the best and can't wait to hear about the rest of the night seeing how it didn't look like it was going to end any time soon.
