Julie and Stephen are as close as you can get to a perfect match and we could see this from the first moment we met with them, to their engagement session we photographed last summer and finally through working with the both of them on their wedding day a couple of weekends ago at the stunning Arcadian Court in downtown Toronto. We were really looking forward to photographing their big day knowing how easy Julie and Stephen are to work with and just how passionate they are about creating great images that capture the essence of their relationship. Also, being at a central venue in the heart of downtown Toronto allowed us to use many different backdrops and locations. We first arrived to catch Julie finishing up her hair and make up before putting on her wedding dress for the last time. We also split up to find Stephen anxiously waiting to see his bride for the first time in her dress and had some fun being creative with him at the main floor of the Arcadian Court. Julie then made her way down the staircase and into Stephen's arms where we spent around an hour with them moving throughout the venue, outside around old city hall and finally across the street to Nathan Phillips Square where I wanted to include the main city hall building and repeating patterns of the arches over the soon-to-be-laid ice rink. We took advantage of the reflections off the small pools of water and then made one last stop at old city hall to include some of its fascinating architecture.
We then headed back to the venue for family pictures followed by a beautiful ceremony overlooking the streets and lights of the city. I was lucky enough to follow Julie and Stephen after they exchanged vows and danced back down the aisle to the elevator just before the doors closed. It was a fun and rare shot to get because it really does encompass just how happy they are together and the joy the emanated from the both of them. It is probably my favorite picture from the night for this reason.
Aside from the laughter, music, and amazing atmosphere of the night, we were truly honored to be with Julie and Stephen along with his grandfather who seems to defy time. In all the years photographing weddings, we have never seen a 98 year old man look so happy, energetic and proud of his family. It was also touching to see both of Julie's grandmothers present and fully celebrating the night and enjoying all the special and touching moments with her and Stephen. Having three grandparents present at a wedding made this an extra special night and is not something that we get to see all the time.
We absolutely enjoyed every minute working with Juie and Stephen and can only image the incredible experiences and joys that will fill the rest of their lives together. We wish them all the best and hope to keep in touch with such an awesome couple. Congratulations!
