On Sunday, March 25, 2012, Sheena and I had the opportunity to photograph Joanna and Nathan's incredible wedding that took place at the amazing Liberty Grand in Toronto, Ontario. Despite being a March wedding, the weather was on our side as we were presented with sunny, blue skies and warm temperatures. But, on top of that, we had such a great couple to work with throughout the entire day. Sheena and I arrived around 11am where we met up with Joanna hanging out and starting to get her preparations done for the day. We spent some time taking pictures of Joanna and her family as well as capturing the small (but, extremely important) details surrounding this part of the day. During this time, I met up with Nathan and his groomsmen to document this fun part of the day as the guys figure out how to put on a bow tie and help the groom look his best.
We then used the Canadian National Exhibition grounds (usually jammed with people in the summer, but empty on this day) to our advantage and found so many creative and artistic elements to highlight the strong connection we saw between Joanna and Nathan. We found tons of funky backdrops, windows, arches and walls to create a wide variety of images and portraits for the bride and groom. Sheena and I could have photographed Joanna and Nathan for days, however, the schedule took us to the family formal part of the day soon after.
Then, it was time for the ceremony that took place in the modern and spacious Artifacts Room at the Liberty Grand. The ceremony was very emotional and was followed by a lively cocktail hour where the guests were treated to tasty appetizers and lots of drinks. Before we knew it, the main curtain opened for Joanna and Nathan's grand entrance as husband and wife.
Often, we are so busy photographing events that Sheena and I don't have lots of time to listen to all the speeches, however, the words that were spoken by all family members and by the groom to his wife, were so touching that the both of us had to stop and reflect on the level of compassion and love that filled the room.
As always, the next thing we knew, the guests were dancing, the band was rocking and it was time for us to say our good-byes and head home after a wonderful day spent with Joanna and Nathan and all their friends and family.
We wish them the most incredible time on their honeymoon and can't wait to begin the album design process. Congratulations to Joanna and Nathan and thanks for having us be part of your big day!
