Last Friday, Sheena and I made our way to such a unique and whimsical venue hidden away in downtown Toronto. The Berkeley Field House is a unique mix of art, colour, grunge and history all wrapped up into one amazing venue that was a perfect fit for Mary and Ashley who tied the knot on a perfect evening on June 15, 2012. We arrived around 4pm in the afternoon to find Mary getting her final make-up touch ups and Sheena and I were both amazed at how relaxed and calm she was. This is always a great sign to see as a photographer. We then found Ashley who, being a well trained groom, was right on time for his arrival where we began to use all aspects of the venue to really bring out the character of Mary and Ashley's relationship. Despite being a bit hot and bright outside, Mary and Ashley were always 100% open to our ideas and did such a wonderful job letting Sheena and I capture them with our vision. Everywhere we looked, there seemed to be such vibrant aspects of the venue, from the blue stage lights to the church stained glass windows to simple brick walls and graphite all around us outside. Of course, when Mary wanted a picture with the firetruck that was nearby, we jumped at the opportunity as we always love hearing ideas from the bride and groom and making them happen. Once we returned back to the venue, it was time for some family pictures and then straight into the simple and elegant ceremony which had all the guests laughing and quite emotional throughout. The reception was such a nice treat as Sheena and I had lots of opportunities to mingle and talk to many of the guests and listen to their stories and connections with the bride and groom which doesn't happen too often when we're photographing a wedding. We were quite excited to see the live disco band, Booty Smacker, that Mary and Ashley raved about since I met them the first time a while back. They didn't disappoint and put on such an awesome show that I even had a hard time saying bye at the end of the night.
Mary and Ashley were so amazing to work with and we were so happy to work them on such a special evening. We wish them all the best and can't wait to see them again in the near future!
