On October 10, 2010 (being the magical 10-10-10 date), Sheena and I were lucky enough to travel up to beautiful Muskoka, Ontario to photograph the wedding of Kim and Danny. We have known Kim and Danny for a long time and have worked with Danny and his successful production company - DJ Floh Back Productions - numerous times at various events. The drive up to Muskoka was stunning (seriously, I was actually 'stunned' many times by the sheer brilliance of nature). It was extremely difficult for me to stay in the car and drive rather than get out and snap pictures. Sheena and I arrived around noon to take pictures of the bride getting ready in the ladies' cabin. Nearby, we then had some fun with Danny and guys in their cabin on the lake. The weather couldn't have been nicer so Sheena and made every effort for our pictures to reflect and integrate the scenic surrounds and the fall colours. The ceremony took place outside along the lake and spectacular quality of light dappling through the trees provided a surreal feel which is truly an indicator of things to come for Kim and Danny in their long lives together.
After having fun with the family formals near the venue, Sheena and I had some fun with the wedding party as we moved around the grounds and found some stunning locations with amazing backgrounds that made the images pop. The speeches were all quite touching and Kim and Danny were even serenaded by a surprise performance of an acoustic song written for them by their good friends, Wade and Hailey.
Once the party got started, there was no end in sight. Some rumors have it that there were guests making animal sounds at 4am, others have told us that they could hear the faint sound of beer bottles being cracked open at sunrise. We can't say for sure since Sheena and I were fast asleep in our little cabin earlier on in the night (which we thought was late, but compared to the guests' night, it was quite early).
It was such a great experience to photograph an intimate wedding weekend on a special date with close friends and family. We know we'll be seeing lots more of Kim and Danny and were honored to be part of their wedding day. Even if the wedding was not on 10-10-10 we still would have given it a perfect ten. All the best in your new lives together!
