Fun, carefree, romantic and madly in love are some of the words we would use to describe Ashley and Danny's relationship... and this is after spending only two hours or so with them for their August engagement session. Before I even had a chance to mention possible locations in the city to meet them, Ashley told me that the specific spot they wanted was Queen Street West in downtown Toronto which is a perfect match for our style of photography. Sheena and I also thought it was awesome that both, Ashley and Danny brought with them a change of wardrobe and their cute puppy, Hudson! We met the couple on Queen West and then started walking west watching funky backdrops appear in the form of old brick walls, windows, stairs and alleys until we made it to a nearby park. Here, we were met with amazing light from the setting sun which seemed to appear right in the exact spot we were... just for Ashley and Danny (at least that's what I was thinking). We continued strolling around the neighbourhood and then made a quick wardrobe change for part two. It was so nice to see Ashley and Danny bring their own ideas and props for the session (sorry, they are for the big day so we can't show them to you :). We really love seeing couples bring their ideas because they often present new challenges for Sheena and I and we always end up overcoming them and growing as a team. Then, just before I thought the session was over, I had the urge that something was missing. There was an aspect of Queen West that I thought we still needed to capture with Ashley and Danny and then we walked right in front of it - a small, dimly lit, empty bar playing good music. Upon chatting with the bar tender using my typical, "Is it cool if we take some pictures of an engagement session?" while setting up the lighting at the same time, we were given the OK. Little did I know that Danny actually knew somebody there (but, I still convinced myself that I was the reason we had no problems getting in). Ashley and Danny were so awesome at holding a pose and really working with us as we needed them in the perfect position for the composition.
We are so excited to be working with them again for their wedding day coming up soon! Cheers,
Gary + Sheena
